Progress at the new school site, October 2009:

  1. The entrance to the school driveway off the Kazangula Rd now has a culvert and the all weather driveway/car park is almost finished
  2. The “Zesco shed” and store room, required by Zesco (before the Zesco can be connected) has been completed, so connection is “imminent” (or will be done just now)
  3. The Tool Room, to house the Bore Hole Pump(which is now in our possession and only waiting for Zesco) has now been completed
  4. The foundations have been laid – thanks to Charl Marais and Koos De Klerk for the loan of their cement mixer
  5. The area has back-filled in preparation for laying the slab – rain stopped play
  6. The rains seem to have come early this year (sod’s law) so we must now concentrate on erecting the roof.
  7. The building frame and roof trusses (steel) need to be erected before the rains really start and this is the main reason that we need cash in advance. The roof trusses have made and delivered to the site. We have the materials to build the columns and the roofing sheets have been ordered, but we need the money NOW to pay for them. If this happens we can have the roof on by the end of November and we can lay the slab despite the rain.
  8. Charl and Koos the Zimbabwean farmers who kindly lent Acacia the cement mixer and other building equipment, have kindly agreed to plough and level the playing fields for free, all we have to do is pay for the tractor fuel and wages for the driver. The fields have already been de-stumped and we have been promised the fields will be leveled in the next week or so, so that we can take advantage of the rains to plant grass
  9. Plans are also being made for the landscaping to be started during the rains. We already have a small quantity of cuttings and seedlings ready to plant, but if anybody has any trees or plants they are willing to donate, they would be gratefully received. Also we will need lots of grass runners, so please, as soon as the rains start, get your garden boys to pick and bag. Please drop at the school.
