History of the School

  • 2003 May – Acacia School started as a playgroup with 8 pupils run by the parents under a mango tree at Zigzag coffee house.
  • 2005 June – With the need for a more structured teaching environment Acacia moved to a rented Residential House in Flamboyant Lane, with 11 pupils. An application was made to the Ministry of Education to start a Primary School
    => The search began for a teacher and land to build a school.
  • 2006 January – Ministry of Education Issued Acacia with a Primary School License.
    Head Teacher and Administrator, Alison and John Curtis were employed on a six month contract to set up Acacia International School – 20 pupils.
  • 2006 September – Kathryn Stephenson, UK qualified, ex- Principal British School of Alexandria, Egypt, joined as Head Teacher to move Acacia to the next stage – 30 pupils.
    => The search for suitable and affordable land continues.
  • 2007 September – the Flamboyant Lane out buildings were upgraded into 3 extra classrooms now 65 pupils
  • 2008 September – Additional classroom built to accommodate 85 pupils.
    => An 8 hectare plot of land was secured on the outskirts of Livingstone (Nakatindi Rd) and the battle for title deeds, building plans and building permission begins. A one year Extension is issued by the Ministry of education to continue the school at Flamboyant Lane
  • 2009 June – Title Deeds for land awarded, planning permission granted and building begins.
    => Fund raising begins in earnest. (See Fund Raising)
  • 2009 June – “SATS” Exams show outstanding results. 100% of pupils are well above the UK standard they should be attaining over all core curricula areas.
  • 2009 September – Building is well underway on the new Acacia International School Campus and on target for occupation after Easter 2010
