We will be welcoming two teachers-in-training to our Early Learning Center next week. Louise and Mia are joining us for 4 weeks from the University of Tromsø, Norway where they are in their second year of their Early Childhood Teacher Education degrees. Norway is a world leader in Early Years and we look forward to learning more about Norwegian Pre-school. Please make them feel very welcome.
Following on from the feedback received from the Parent’s Forum, the Board of Governors has decided to increase the amount of study time available for Grade 7s. Details of how this will be achieved are being finalised and will be announced next Friday.

World Book Day – 1st March
We are celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 1st March at Acacia, as developing a love of reading is key to lifelong learning.
1. Children are invited to dress as a favorite book character for the day.
2. We are introducing a sponsor a book programme. All children should either donate an age-appropriate book for the library (good quality, good condition) or donate K50 to sponsor a new reading book. All donations and sponsored books will be acknowledged with a sticker “Donated by [child name] for World Book Day 2018”. This will become an annual event. If you would like to donate more than one book, please feel free! A big thank you to the families who have donated books to the library already this term.
Inter-Schools Athletics – Sat 3rd March
Acacia will be hosting an Inter-Schools Athletics Event on Saturday 3rd March, from 0830 to 1300. We will be joined by Livingstone schools including Tongabezi and Nekacheya. Letters will be sent to all Athletics team members. All students are strongly encouraged to attend to support our Athletics team. Parents are warmly invited to support.
Homework and Reading at Home
Your involvement in your child’s education has very significant positive impact on their learning. As teachers we notice a big difference between those children who received support at home, and those who do not. It is essential that you support your child to read daily at home. Thank you to all those parents who have been listening to their children read and signing the reading log each day. You are making a big impact on your child’s education. We all understand the demands of family life, and that it is a challenge to make time, but just a few minutes each day has a lifetime effect. Please make this a priority.
Reading Logs must be signed daily and Homework log’s weekly. Please ensure Homework Diarys come to school each day so the teachers can use them to log their reading and comments.
Week 6 Cake Sale
Donations for the cake sale on Friday 2nd March are kindly requested from the families of the following children. Only one donation needed per family.
